How it works
- 1
Write the sign
Type one to four lines, choose a font, and add an SVG or image logo if you have one.
- 2
Shape the pattern
Set the letter height, draft, fillet, plate, border, and the alloy whose shrink allowance scales the pattern.
- 3
Check and print
Look at the draft check, make sure the pattern fits your printer bed, then download an STL or 3MF.
- Draft and fillet
- Every raised wall leans by the draft angle and meets the plate with a rounded fillet, so the sand lets go of the pattern. The draft check on this page uses the same engine as the draft angle checker, pulling along +Z with a flat back.
- Finishing a printed pattern
- Print with three or more perimeters, fill the layer lines with filler primer, sand the surface smooth, and spray a release agent before you ram the sand. If you cast in PLA instead, use the lost-PLA sprue builder on this site.
- Shrink and checking
- The pattern is scaled by your alloy’s typical shrink allowance. Casting numbers are estimates. Ask your alloy supplier or foundry for pour temperatures and burnout schedules.
Questions
Why does the draft check come out clean?
The raised walls are built as true slopes, not stacked steps, so the check does not mistake layers for vertical walls. Your slicer still prints in layers.
Can I add a logo?
Yes. SVG filled shapes preserve curves; strokes, text, gradients, and embedded images are ignored, and the page says so. PNG, JPG, and other images are traced from their dark shapes on a white background. Check small details in the preview.
Which fonts are included?
Cinzel Bold, Oswald Bold, and Bebas Neue, all under the SIL Open Font License. They load from this site, never from a font service.
Why does it say my letters are too thin?
Draft narrows the top of every wall. A stroke thinner than twice the raised height times the tangent of the draft angle would disappear, so the page asks for a bolder font, a lower height, or less draft.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser with the JavaScript on this page. Your data never leaves your computer, and nothing is kept after you close the tab.
Selling custom plaques or signs?
I build order forms that turn a customer's wording into a ready pattern and a quote.
