How it works
- 1
Read your model
Drop a mesh and confirm its units. Open meshes are labeled as estimates.
- 2
Compare alloys
Choose your alloy and casting yield to include runners, sprues, and risers.
- 3
Check the report
Review volume, surface area, weight, and the whole-part riser calculation.
- Riser starting point
- This treats the whole part as one block. Foundries size risers from the heaviest section.
- Melt yield
- Casting weight divided by yield gives the melt to pour. A 60% yield reserves 40% for the gating system.
- Typical values
- Casting numbers are estimates. Check alloy density, pour temperatures, and burnout schedules with your alloy supplier or investment maker.
Questions
Can I trust the volume of an open mesh?
Only as an estimate. Missing faces, overlapping shells, and inconsistent winding can distort the signed-volume calculation.
How is the riser derived?
The required modulus is 1.2 times casting volume divided by area. A cylinder with H = 1.5D cools from its top and sides. The calculation excludes its contact face.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser with the JavaScript on this page. Your data never leaves your computer, and nothing is kept after you close the tab.
Quoting castings or patterns every week?
I build quoting tools that read a customer's CAD file, work out weight and metal cost, and price the job automatically.
