Free Excel to CSV converter

Drop in an .xlsx file and pick a sheet, or paste cells you copied from Excel or Google Sheets. Dates come out readable, ZIP codes keep their leading zeros, and every sheet can download at once.

Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.

You can also drop a file anywhere on this page. Up to 50 MB.

Choose an .xlsx file or paste cells, and the CSV preview appears here.

How it works

  1. 1

Choose a workbook or paste cells

Drop an .xlsx file anywhere on the page, or copy a range in Excel or Google Sheets and paste it into the box.

  2. 2

    Pick the sheet

Hidden sheets are listed too. The preview shows the sheet the way the CSV will have it, with column letters across the top.

  3. 3

    Download the CSV

Download the sheet you're looking at, or every sheet at once as a ZIP of CSV files.

Dates
Excel stores dates as numbers. Cells formatted as dates come out as 2026-10-06 or 10/06/2026, depending on the option you pick, and times are kept when the cell has one.
Numbers
Values come out as stored, without Excel's display formatting, so 12% becomes 0.12 and $1,250.00 becomes 1250. Cells formatted with fixed zeros, like ZIP codes shown as 00000, keep their leading zeros.
Formulas
Each formula cell gives the result saved with the file. A file generated by another program may not have saved results, and the result tells you how many cells are missing one.

Questions

Can it open .xls files?

Not the older .xls format from Excel 97–2003. Open the file in Excel or Google Sheets, save it as .xlsx, and use that copy. The same goes for password-protected workbooks.

Why paste cells instead of choosing a file?

Pasting is quicker when you need part of a sheet. Copied cells arrive as tab-separated text, and the tool turns them into CSV with proper quoting.

How big a file can it handle?

Up to 50 MB. Most computers handle that in a few seconds. If you convert files that size on a regular schedule, a small automated job is usually the better fit.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser with the JavaScript on this page. Your data never leaves your computer, and nothing is kept after you close the tab.

Exporting the same spreadsheet every week?

I connect spreadsheets to the systems that need their data, so reports and imports update on their own instead of through a weekly export.
